Before advising on treatments, or dispensing herbal medicines, a Master Herbalist will take a thorough case history. They may also use other diagnostic tools. This is to ensure that the appropriate naturopathic principles are applied and an accurate prescription is dispensed.
“Iridology is the examination and analysis of the iris of the eye (the coloured disk around the pupil) to reveal inherent and chronic constitutional health patterns in the individual”.
Constitution is the sum of your genetic inheritance and its formative influences. It will determine the unique response of your system to the conditions of your life, and describe the limits of tolerance which may give way, under stress and toxic encumbrance, to patterns of ill health and disease. These, as may readily be seen, are quite often familial.
Apart from variations in colour, the Iridologist also examines the texture and structure of the iris, and works to determine which organs and systems may be out of balance by observing markings in reference to an ‘iris reflex chart’, which contains the positions in which the reflexes to these organs may be found in the iris itself.
An Iridologist does not see the disease itself: s/he sees the conditions out of which the disease manifests. The relevance for Iridology in health care is that it enables us to get behind the disease to the person. Placing constitution at the heart of therapy helps us to avoid treating only the symptoms (often mistaken for the disease itself), focusing instead upon the whole picture, calming and pacifying where there is excess, enhancing and nourishing where there is deficiency.
Apart from its application as part of the practitioner’s assessment process, Iridology can and should be a positive and empowering experience in itself. Knowing your constitution can assist you to guard against threats to your health in the future, and help you to understand the unique qualities and needs of your physical and psychological make-up.”
